Meet the 2024 Artists-in-Residence

Maroxby, Futures Lab Artist-in-Residence: Jan-Mar 2024
"The Election Cyclorama" by Maroxby is an innovative, immersive art project that transports viewers into a visually rich, cartoon-inspired exploration of the election cycle. This unique experience is designed to dissect the complexities and nuances of the electoral process, engaging participants with interactive elements and augmented reality (AR) technology to illuminate the profound impact of individual votes. Through Maroxby's creative vision, the exhibit seeks to educate and inspire civic participation, offering a compelling blend of art, technology, and social commentary. By reimagining the way we engage with and understand our democratic responsibilities, "The Election Cyclorama" stands as a testament to the power of art to foster dialogue, reflection, and change in society.
Elijah Zulu, A&E Atlanta Artist-in-Residence: Apr-Jul 2024
Lawrence is a creative technologist with a passion for design and illustration. Her past work includes everything from physical installations to virtual reality-enabled experiences, and she is currently exploring the artistic possibilities of artificial intelligence. During her residency, Lawrence will explore emerging AI technologies to create an automated platform that transforms users’ reactions and emotions into a digital quilt of generated images. Drawing from her experience fostering community collaboration to create public art, Lawrence will engage MARTA transit riders in the process and thereby involve the Atlanta community in her work. AI images will be collected in real time, allowing viewers to see how they change throughout the day, week, and month. In addition, Lawrence will use AR technology to create an immersive experience for participants to digitally explore the gallery of diverse, community-generated work.
Mira Kaufman and Owen Rohm, MARTA Artbound Artist-in-Residence: Jun-Sep 2024
Mira and Owen are exploring the essence of the MARTA Artbound experience as the foundation for a series of 3D art pieces. They're considering elements like the train car, station, and rider as potential focal points. Their vision includes creating interactive collectibles that, when combined, offer a unique narrative or visual representation of MARTA Artbound. Ideas range from connectable train car models to RFID-enabled pieces that interact with station kiosks, unveiling art drops, data visualizations, or stories in comic strip formats. They also plan to integrate a scavenger hunt with the collectibles, enhancing engagement and exploration.
Jordan Young, A&E Atlanta Artist-in-Residence: Aug-Nov 2024
Jordan plans to illuminate the Atlanta arts scene with digital media dioramas, spotlighting emerging artists and the vibrant spaces they animate. By blending technology with traditional art forms, Jordan aims to foster interdisciplinary conversations and collaboration. The project invites the public to engage with and reimagine the future of art in Atlanta, through interactive installations at the Futures Lab and an online platform, celebrating the city's artistic diversity and encouraging community connection.
Pamela Donohoo, A&E Atlanta Artist-in-Residence: Nov-Feb 2025
Pamela views performance as an ephemeral art form, where the energy of production becomes a unique, fleeting experience. She sees potential in new technologies to amplify this energy, mirroring Atlanta's dynamic growth. Utilizing her expertise in aerial arts, Pamela plans to employ various technologies at The Public Art Futures Lab to engage the downtown community through innovative visuals on A&E digital signs. Her project explores how diverse perspectives and advanced technology can enhance and energize the urban landscape, inviting reflection on the future of artmaking in Atlanta.
